CIEH Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment Principles and Practice, Chippenham, Wiltshire

Governance – what is it? Rules and regulations demystified, free one day course at Devizes, Wiltshire (Date: 02/10/2008)
A series of workshop events delivered on behalf of SWAN- the South West ACRE Network by Community First. The events are being funded by the South West Regional Development Agency and coordinated by SWAN – the South West ACRE Network in conjunction with other partners and relating to the Department of Communities and Local Government’s Empowering Communities agenda. The events are open to both trustees and staff of the voluntary and community organisations and officers and councillors of the statutory sector. The aim is to promote joint learning and share experiences for the benefit of everyone.The workshops are a great opportunity to build on existing skills to help you engage with and support your local community with particular projects or ongoing areas of work. Employment and Support Allowance, Shelbourne, Dorset
Provider: ViSTA – Voluntary Sector Training Alliance. Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) comes into force on 27th October 2008. This new benefit will replace Incapacity Benefit (ICB) and Income Support (IS) for those who are unable to work because of sickness or disability. Initially ESA will only apply to new claimants on or after 27th October but eventually all ICB and IS claimants will also have to claim ESA and meet the new more restrictive rules. It is expected that those under 25 will come under the new rules in 2009 and all other claimants by April 2010. This new course will help advisers, who are working with clients who are claiming benefits because they are unable to work, understand more about ESA and how its introduction will impact on claimants. Basic First Aid course, British Red Cross, Winchester, 18/09/08. This is a Basic First Aid course, suitable for anyone who wishes to learn first aid to cover the more common emergencies. First aid competence is measured by continuous assessment and a certificate is issued on successful completion of the course. The certificate is valid for 3 years and recognised throughout Europe. Partnership Working with Youth Arts, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, 09/10/2008. The course covers many essential areas of partnership work including looking at the benefits of where, when and how to find the right partner, practical techniques and approaches to working in partnerships with other organisations and individuals as well as defining roles and setting realistic targets. This course will also cover troubleshooting for problem areas, including when and how to bow out gracefully if partnerships aren’t working. Aggression at work - and how to handle It – Training CD-ROM
interactive CD-ROM tackles the increasingly high-profile problem of aggression at work. It is designed for anyone who may encounter aggression at work … and these days that’s most of us. Following ‘a day in the life’ of a hard-pressed social worker, it contains a variety of scenarios in which workers face aggression, and demonstrates how to respond effectively to them. Presented by Ray Braithwaite, a national authority on the subject of aggression at work, a thought-provoking film shows you how to defuse potentially difficult situations and gives guidance on avoiding them in the first place.
